A. Yes we do offer small group classes, but it is important that each child in a single group are all of a similar age and ability. What we recommend is that all new students begin with private classes. Then, once they have learnt basic water safety, if you would like your child to participate in group lessons if with parent, or if they are 3 years of age or over, we can place them in a group with other students at the same level.
A. Babies can begin to enjoy learn to swim classes from as young as 3 months old. Swim Hua Hin begins to teach a love and respect for the water to babies from around 6 months of age and up. Prior to this age we recommend parents encourage a love of the water at home by making bath time enjoyable.
A. Yes, of course we can, it is never too late to learn, our progressive teaching methods work with anyone regardless of age.
A. Absolutely, we offer Squad Training for those interested, and will tailor programs to help increase their speed and endurance in the water, as well as fine tune their stroke, and teach correct starts and turns. Click here for more information about our Squad Training programs.
A. At Swim Hua Hin we will teach your child to swim without the use of arm bands, so that they gain a better understanding of his/her own buoyancy, and learn how to get themselves to the side of the pool and exit the water without assistance. So it is best if the arm bands are left at home.
A. Learning to swim is always fun and no one should be subjected to a fearful or intimidating environment when learning to swim. We will never aggressively force children to perform learn to swim activities particularly if they are distressed. However it is unrealistic to say that children never cry during swim lessons as their always will be some that do. It is important in these instances that the parent and the teacher try to recognise why the child is upset, and work together to remedy the problem.
A. Infants are very in tune with their parent's body language, facial expressions and tone of voice. Their reaction to people or new situations will be largely determined by their parents. For this reason it is most important that parents are relaxed and comfortable when teaching their baby to swim. Children that have not had early exposure to water are more likely to appreciate water danger and as a result often develop a fear of the water.
When we teach frightened swimmers, Swim Hua Hin teachers are relaxed, patient and loving towards the child. We do not rush or hurry them. All children are individuals and need to learn to swim at their own pace. We teach frightened children in shallow water where they can be in control. We also create a positive learn to swim environment with encouraging praise, fun games and activities that foster the learn to swim process.
A. Goggles are a very useful aid for swimmers to protect their eyes from over exposure to chlorine. However it is important that children do not become reliant on them. Lessons are only for 30 minutes, so while it is good to bring them, it is not necessary to have them and your child may be asked to swim without them for at least part of the lesson. For safety reasons children need to be able to swim without them, in case they ever fell into a pool unexpectedly for example, they will need to be comfortable opening their eyes in the water.
A. We recommend that students attend swimming lessons at least once per week and have found that those who are able to attend twice a week progress much faster. New skills will take hold quicker if they are reinforced, practiced, and perfected more regularly. Consistency is important and enrolling your child in learn to swim classes year round will give them the best chance of becoming strong, confident swimmers.
A. We cannot give an exact answer as every child is unique and will learn to swim at a different pace. Learning to swim requires commitment and a consistent approach. Learning to swim correctly takes children a few years. If your child attends lessons regularly they will get results, and will always improve as long as they have regular opportunities to practice. The goal for infants and preschoolers is for them to be independently mobile in the water. But as children grow and their motor skills develop the focus shifts to developing a natural swimming stroke that will last a life time.
A. At Swim Hua Hin, many parents tell us their child can swim despite not ever receiving any formal instruction. It is true if a child has access to a pool regularly they will become more confident in the water, but without proper instruction they are very likely to develop bad habits that will make swimming any distance more exhausting than it needs to be. Learning to swim correctly will help your child to swim to the best of their ability, it will improve their self-esteem, refine motor skill and coordination, and will help improve posture and lung capacity. We believe that enrolling your child in learn to swim classes is probably one of the best gifts you will ever give them.
A. The weather in Hua Hin can be quite changeable at times, and there is no need to cancel swimming lessons because of a little rain. However if conditions become extreme, such as very heavy rain, strong wind gusts, or lightning and thunder, then yes we will cancel the lesson at that time. The welfare of the students always comes first.
A. Obviously there will be times when you may need to cancel your swimming lesson due to illness or other reasons. In these instances as long as we are given at least 24 hours’ notice then we will try to schedule a make-up class, which may have to be at a different time to your usual lesson time.
